S1E20 - Foreign Policy for a Free People (1)

How do freedom lovers think about foreign policy? What role does a government have in exercising power abroad?

Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society.

With the United States withdrawing from Afghanistan after two decades, many people wonder: what's next for America and her foreign policy? Well, what exactly is foreign policy? It's the collection of goals, plans, and actions by a national government in dealing with governments, companies, groups, and individuals from other nations. Sometimes, if you know what you're doing, you're able to direct those policies toward a general objective. What those objectives are can be the difference between sanctions and trade, war and peace. Today, we're going to explore how different kinds of freedom lovers think on foreign policy.

S1E19 - Woke Bureaucrats

With Republicans going after wokeness in institutions like the military, we have a question: how does a free people account for ideology among bureaucrats?

S1E18 - Insidious, Infiltrating, Irritable: The Irrational Instance of Inflation

More alliteration abounds as Stanton and Cody discuss what happens when Biden's Budget and government spending in general gets out of control.

Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society.

We're missing Kristi again! So, Cody and Stanton yuck it up over something rather...yucky. As we and others across the state and country come together in person, more and more businesses are opening, schools are hopefully going back to in-person learning in the fall…it feels like things are getting back to normal. But, there's a growing threat now that people are back into the regular economic drive, a consequence born from misguided government policy. Welcome to the terrible, no-good world of inflation. It's insidious, it's powerful, and its threat to a free society is almost entirely unknown to most Americans.

Here's the link to Kristi's article: https://www.google.com/amp/s/thehill.com/opinion/white-house/557037-bidens-massive-budget-proposal-leaves-the-nation-fiscally-vulnerable%3famp

And forgive Stanton's echo-like sound. He's just moved into a new office and is still playing with the quality.

S1E16 - The Great Debate, Pt. III: Big Tech

Do the Big Tech companies have a dangerous hold over information and pose a threat to a free society, or would regulating them cause greater damage than letting them do as they want?

In our first part, we looked at immigration, and in our second we discussed intellectual property. Today, in our third installment, we discuss regulating Big Tech platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

S1E13 - Unnatural Monopoly, w/Sarah Hunt

In our first interview episode, we explore the menace that creeps in our water, our electricity, and now our Internet: public utilities.

Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society.

The world decries capitalism for the evil of monopolies -- those greedy profiteers who would sap the people of their wealth by being the only ones who produce a good or service. But most people fail to realize that so called "natural monopolies" are impossible. The only monopoly you see today aren't from the free market, but from the government. In fact, the longest running, best protected, and most common monopoly are government public utilities, the providers of some of our most necessary services. Join us and Sarah Hunt of Hunt Public Policy as we discuss how the rise of broadband utilities, along with all the others, threaten the foundation of our right to property, and a prosperous society.

S1E12 - Please Leave Us Alone

A free people demand that they solve their own problems. A free community must do the same.

Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society.

A free people demand that they solve their own problems. The same principle (of subsidiarity) applies directly to communities, as well. Whether we're talking about state rights vs. the federal government, your local school district vs. the state capitol, or your store manager vs. corporate HQ, those most immediately and directly connected to a problem are best suited to solve the problem. Abandoning this idea means surrendering not just your responsibility to deal with difficult situations, but your autonomy to do as you see proper.
